Western Health (Victoria) Stoma Care Study Day for Division 2 Nurses
 

Aim of Program:

The aim of the program is to provide a contemporary overview of colorectal nursing and stoma-related issues to Division 2 Registered Nurses.

Program Structure:

The program consists of interactive classroom-based instruction plus group-work and presentations.

Program Eligibility:

The program is open to Division 2 Nurses who wish to expand their knowledge base in stoma-related nursing care

Program Enrolment

The program is limited to 30 participants

Program Outline:

Topics and skills to be covered in the program include:

  • GIT disorders & stoma-related terminology
  • Surgery that will result in a stoma
  • Understanding the different types of stomas
  • Post-operative stoma care in the acute setting
  • Stoma related complications
  • Nutrition for people with a stoma
  • Introduction to product selection
  • Pigtail Drain Tubes
  • Colostomy Irrigation
  • Product Display
  • Group Work - Case Scenario
  • Group Presentations Test and Finish
